Product Information

The Oaknook Hardcover A5 Journal holds eighty sheets of warm toned paper behind a firm cover, with an elastic band that keeps it closed in a bag. The firm cover means it can be written on unsupported, standing up or on a knee, without a desk underneath it. Bright white paper under a desk lamp or a screen is harsher than most people notice until they work on a warmer stock and find the difference.

The paper is ruled at one centimetre, which is wide enough to suit rough sketching and diagrams as well as writing, and warm toned rather than bright white, which is easier on the eye across a long session. Eighty sheets gives a hundred and sixty usable pages. One centimetre ruling is wider than standard narrow feint, which suits larger handwriting, annotation between lines and quick diagrams sketched alongside notes.

At 80gsm the paper is heavy enough that ink does not show through to the next page, so both sides of every sheet are genuinely usable rather than nominally so. That effectively doubles the capacity compared with a thinner journal of the same sheet count. The elastic closure keeps the covers together in a bag so pages do not fold back on themselves, and it holds a loose receipt or ticket in place between the pages.

Warmer paper, easier on the eye

Bright white paper under a desk lamp or a screen is harsher than most people notice until they work on a warmer stock. The paper here is warm toned rather than bright white, which is easier on the eye across a long session.

Write anywhere, no desk needed

The firm cover means it can be written on unsupported, standing up or on a knee, without a desk underneath it. An elastic band keeps it closed in a bag, so pages do not fold back on themselves, and it holds a loose receipt or ticket in place.

Every page genuinely usable

At 80gsm the paper is heavy enough that ink does not show through to the next page, so both sides of every sheet are usable. That effectively doubles the capacity compared with a thinner journal of the same sheet count.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pages does it have?

It holds eighty sheets, which gives a hundred and sixty usable pages. Because the paper is heavy enough not to show through, both sides of every sheet are genuinely usable.

How is the paper ruled?

It is ruled at one centimetre, which is wider than standard narrow feint. That suits larger handwriting, annotation between lines and quick diagrams sketched alongside notes.

Will ink show through the page?

No. At 80gsm the paper is heavy enough that ink does not bleed through to the next sheet, so you can write on both sides without ghosting.

Can I write on it without a desk?

Yes. The firm cover lets you write on it unsupported, standing up or resting on a knee, which is where a floppy cover gives up.

Does it stay shut in a bag?

It does. An elastic closure keeps the covers together so pages do not fold back on themselves, and it holds a loose receipt or ticket in place between the pages.
